Fence Removal in Rochester, NY

Taking a fence down is the easy half. Getting posts set in clay and concrete out of the ground without leaving craters the length of the yard is the part that matters — and it is why fence removal is priced by post count as much as by linear feet.

  • From $1,000
  • Haul-away included
  • Footings and posts pulled

Why homeowners remove a fence

Fences fail at the posts long before the panels look bad. Water sits in the post hole, the base rots, and the whole run starts leaning. By the time pickets are falling out, the posts are usually past saving.

The other reason is a change of boundary: a new fence going in, a pool coming out, a dog gone, or a property line that needs to be visible again for a survey.

What we remove

  • Wood privacy, picket and shadowbox fence
  • Vinyl and composite fence panels
  • Chain link, including posts set in concrete
  • Split rail and decorative garden fencing
  • Gates, posts, footings and concrete collars

Signs it is time

  • Posts that move when you push on them
  • Panels bowing, sagging or separating from the rails
  • Concrete collars cracked and pushed up out of the ground
  • A fence that has to come out before a new one, a pool or a survey

Our fence removal process

  1. Quote from photosRoughly how many feet, what material, and how many posts. Photos of the posts and the access path settle most of it.
  2. Protect and clearMats go down along the line, and anything planted against the fence is flagged before we start pulling.
  3. Take the panels downPanels and rails come off first and are stacked flat, so the posts can be worked without fighting the fence.
  4. Pull the posts and collarsPosts come out whole where possible; concrete collars get broken out and the holes backfilled and tamped.
  5. Sweep and haulNails and wire get a magnet pass, the line is raked, and the material leaves the same day.

Special considerations

  • Property lines are yours to settle first. We remove what you point at, not what we assume is on your side.
  • Posts cut at grade leave a buried obstruction for the next fence, a tiller or a mower — we pull them instead.
  • Chain link is hauled with the load; if you want the metal separated for scrap, say so before we start.

What happens to the space afterward?

You get a clean line: holes backfilled, ground raked, nothing left at the curb. If a new fence is going in, the removal can be sequenced with it so the new posts go into fresh holes rather than around old stumps of concrete.

If a replacement surface is going in, we sequence the removal around it — and say so before the work starts.

What fence removal costs in Rochester

We do not publish prices we cannot stand behind, because the number depends on what is actually on site. Residential removal projects generally have a $1,000 minimum project value. What moves the quote:

  • Linear footage and post count — posts are the labour-heavy part
  • Material: chain link comes down fast, vinyl panels crack and slow the job
  • Whether posts are set in concrete, and how deep the collars are
  • Access along the line and how far panels have to be carried

How to get an accurate number

Send photos of the structure, the ground around it and the path a trailer would take to reach it. Add rough dimensions if you have them. Most jobs are quoted from that alone; anything structural or unusual gets looked at first.

Fence Removal FAQs

Do you pull the posts or cut them at grade?

We pull them, including the concrete collar, and backfill the holes. Cutting at grade leaves a buried obstacle for whoever builds or digs there next.

Can you remove a fence on a property line?

Only with the neighbour's agreement. Boundary fences are a civil question rather than a removal one, and we will not put ourselves in the middle of it.

Do you take the concrete out of the post holes?

Yes. Collars are broken out and hauled, and the holes are tamped so the line is walkable when we leave.

Can you take down a fence and put up a new one?

We remove, not install. If a new fence is going in, we will pull the old one and leave the line ready for the installer.

Ready to remove your fence?

Send a photo and the access width. Residential projects start at $1,000.
