Pool Deck Removal in Rochester, NY

A pool deck is usually the first thing to fail and the last thing to leave. It is built around the pool, often over disturbed ground, and coming back from that means taking the deck out completely rather than patching boards.

  • From $1,000
  • Haul-away included
  • Footings and posts pulled

Why homeowners remove a pool deck

Wood decks around pools rot faster than any other deck: splash-out, wet ground and no airflow underneath. Once the framing softens, the deck is done.

Concrete surrounds crack as the pool settles and frost moves the slab. A cracked pool deck is also a drainage problem, sending water toward the pool wall.

What we remove

  • Wood pool decks and their framing
  • Concrete pool surrounds and coping
  • Paver and stone pool decks with their base
  • Steps, railings and ladders
  • Post footings and their pads

Signs it is time

  • Soft or springy boards, especially near the pool edge
  • Framing that has pulled away from the pool wall
  • Cracked or lifted concrete sections
  • Water pooling between the deck and the pool
Cleared ground where a pool deck stood after removal
Deck out, footings pulled, ground ready for backfill or a new surface.

Our pool deck removal process

  1. Quote from photosDeck material, size and how it meets the pool wall. Photos of the edge and the framing underneath are the deciding detail.
  2. Clear and protectAnything pool-side comes off first: ladders, handrails and covers.
  3. Strip the surfaceDecking or slab sections come out, working away from the pool wall.
  4. Remove framing and footingsJoists, posts and their pads come out; paver base and sand go out with the load.
  5. Leave the wall and grade readyThe pool wall is left clean, and the grade is ready for backfill or a new surround.

Special considerations

  • If the pool is staying, the deck has to come off without loading the wall or prying the coping loose.
  • If the pool is going too, sequence it: deck first, then pool, then backfill.
  • Electrical for pool lights or a pump is disconnected by a licensed electrician before we touch anything near it.

What happens to the space afterward?

The pool wall is exposed and clean, and the ground is ready for a new deck, a paver surround, or backfill if the pool is coming out too. Getting the sequencing right here saves paying twice for access.

If a replacement surface is going in, we sequence the removal around it โ€” and say so before the work starts.

What pool deck removal costs in Rochester

We do not publish prices we cannot stand behind, because the number depends on what is actually on site. Residential removal projects generally have a $1,000 minimum project value. What moves the quote:

  • Deck material โ€” wood comes apart quickly, concrete does not
  • Size and whether it wraps multiple sides of the pool
  • Footing count and how they were set
  • Whether the pool stays or comes out

How to get an accurate number

Send photos of the structure, the ground around it and the path a trailer would take to reach it. Add rough dimensions if you have them. Most jobs are quoted from that alone; anything structural or unusual gets looked at first.

Pool Deck Removal FAQs

Can you remove the deck and leave the pool?

Yes. Decking comes out working away from the wall, and the coping and wall are left intact for a new surround.

Do you remove the concrete under the deck?

Yes, including pads and footings. Concrete around a pool is often thinner than it looks, which makes it quicker than a driveway.

What if the pool is being removed as well?

Sequence deck first, then the pool, then backfill. Doing both in one mobilisation is cheaper than two.

Is the pool water an issue?

If the pool is staying, no. If it is going, it is drained to where the municipality allows, not onto a neighbour's property.
