Treehouse Removal in Rochester, NY
A treehouse is the one removal where the tree matters more than the structure. Everything attached to it has to come off without girdling the trunk or leaving spikes that rot into the wood.
- From $1,000
- Haul-away included
- Footings and posts pulled
Why homeowners remove a treehouse
The structure has failed or been outgrown, but the tree is still healthy and worth keeping — so the removal is careful rather than quick.
Or the tree itself is coming down and the treehouse has to be off it first, because a tree service will not work around a structure bolted through the canopy.
What we remove
- Platforms and decks built around trunks or between limbs
- Ladders, rope nets and climbing holds
- Railings, roofs and walls
- Bolts, lag screws and tree-attachment hardware
- Support posts and their footings
Signs it is time
- Rotted platform decking or a sagging floor
- Hardware pulling out of the tree
- A tree that has grown around the attachment and started to swell
- A structure with no safe way up or down
Our treehouse removal process
- Assess the tree, not just the buildWe look at how it is attached, how high it is, and whether the limbs carrying it are sound.
- Work from the top downRoof and railings first, then the platform, then the supporting members — nothing heavy dropped from height.
- Release the attachmentsBolts and lag screws come out rather than being cut flush, so nothing is left in the trunk to rot or damage a saw later.
- Lower and carry outSections are lowered on ropes where needed and carried out.
- Leave the tree and the ground cleanHoles in the trunk are assessed and left to seal naturally, and the ground is raked.
Special considerations
- Anything higher than a step ladder, over a fence or near wires needs fall protection and a second pair of hands — that is reflected in the price.
- If limbs have to be cut to get the structure off, that is arborist work and should be done by one. We remove structures, not tree parts.
- Nails and bolts left in a trunk are a hazard to anyone who ever mills or fells that tree — they come out.
What happens to the space afterward?
The tree stays, the structure is gone, and the ground beneath is cleared. If the tree is coming down anyway, sequence the treehouse removal first and the arborist second.
If a replacement surface is going in, we sequence the removal around it — and say so before the work starts.
What treehouse removal costs in Rochester
We do not publish prices we cannot stand behind, because the number depends on what is actually on site. Residential removal projects generally have a $1,000 minimum project value. What moves the quote:
- Height and how the structure is attached
- Whether sections can be lowered or must be carried down
- Limb cutting, if any — that is arborist work
- Access under the tree and the carry distance
How to get an accurate number
Send photos of the structure, the ground around it and the path a trailer would take to reach it. Add rough dimensions if you have them. Most jobs are quoted from that alone; anything structural or unusual gets looked at first.

Will removing the treehouse hurt the tree?
It should not. Attachments are removed rather than cut, and the bolt holes are left to seal. Wounds from lag screws are small if they come out cleanly.
Do you cut limbs to get the structure out?
No. If limbs need to come off, an arborist does that first, then we remove the structure.
Can you reach a treehouse over a fence or near wires?
Sometimes, with the right equipment and a second person. We will tell you honestly if the job needs an arborist instead.
Do you remove the support posts and footings?
Yes, including any posts down to the ground and their footings.
